The Story behind the Story

Tess Sweet and Dan Gambelin Old Brown House Wedding venue owners

Hello friends! We’d like to take a moment to introduce ourselves. We are Tess and Dan. We’ve been married for thirteen years. We are partners in love and life. And we love to celebrate love!

We are both artists and recently retired from our previous lives. Dan was a paramedic firefighter for 29 years and Tess was a filmmaker. Both of our careers broke our hearts in different ways. So, when it was time for us to look ahead to what was next for us, we had a wild idea to do something that filled our hearts. We visioned opening a magic little affordable wedding chapel. Not long after that conversation, Dan saw an old white house for sale in our neighborhood. Destiny called!

In 2021, we took a leap of faith and dove in. We bought the cutest little old house in Highland Park, our favorite neighborhood in Los Angeles. The house needed a ton of remodeling, but we both love a creative challenge. We put on our work boots and got to work. We did most of the remodeling ourselves. After almost two years of renovations, we opened the Old Brown House in 2023. And it’s amazing! Read about us on the front page of the LA Times!
